Welcome to my campaign site. I would like to congratulate you on having the foresight to prepare yourself to vote intelligently in the next election, rather than voting for the candidate with the biggest advertising budget. If more voters would take the time to research candidates’ positions as you are doing right now, we would have stronger leadership at the state and federal levels.

My name is Christopher N. Geary, and I'm running for State Senator of District 3 in the Nebraska State Legislature. I invite you to explore this website and find out where I stand on issues that affect Nebraskans. If you agree with my positions and you reside in District 3, I would appreciate your vote in the upcoming election.

District 3 covers a large part of the Omaha metro area. To view a map, click here: District 3 map.

Nebraska is the only state in the U.S. that has a unicameral legislature (one house instead of two). Our state is divided into 49 legislative districts with about 35,000 people in each one. The voters in each district elect a Senator to represent them in Lincoln.

Nebraska State Senators are elected to a four-year term, and they are paid $12,000 a year by the State of Nebraska. Legislative sessions begin in January and end in April (in even-numbered years) or June (in odd-numbered years.)

Here are some of the duties of a Nebraska State Senator:

  • represent the people and the best interests of his or her legislative district;
  • allocate funds to support economic growth;
  • make sure people are treated fairly;
  • monitor spending and operations of state government;
  • hold public forums where people can voice their concerns;
  • propose constitutional amendments to be submitted for a vote by the people;
  • introduce bills to create new programs, modify existing programs, and repeal laws that are no longer needed;
  • study problems between sessions and determine whether legislative solutions are needed to correct them.

These are difficult times economically and politically, but I have chosen to run for office because I believe the people in my district are dissatisfied with the status quo and are looking for more effective representation in the Nebraska Legislature.

Nebraska is a great state. We know who we are and what we want, but I believe we need fewer politicians and bolder leadership with stronger heartland values to bring Nebraskans closer together. The problems that face our state will not go away by themselves, and they cannot be fixed with financial contributions from special interest groups and lobbyists. For example, we can no longer look the other way while predatory financial institutions lure homebuyers with low-interest mortgages and then raise rates to the point where people lose their homes through foreclosure. We can no longer submit meekly as our federal and state governments tax our incomes and property and then spend our money to wage war overseas while ignoring our own problems at home. I believe it is time to stand up for what we believe, just as our patriotic ancestors stood up to defend their rights and safeguard the future of their children.

Unfortunately, in today’s society, many shallow people are ruled by their desire for material possessions and status. These things can cloud our judgment about what needs to be done. I believe that being elected to any office should be a privilege. As your State Senator, I intend to represent the many and not just the few. If you share my belief that changes are needed and that we must focus our energies on building a better future for all Nebraskans, I would appreciate your vote.

Sincerely,
Christopher N. Geary
